Parish Lenten Group

Hi, I am Sr Helen Stannard RSM, and I joined a parish Lenten Group coordinated and hosted by Phil and Neville Fernandes. We have been meeting each week on a Tuesday morning for a scrumptious morning tea followed by our Lenten sharing.

The group consists of parishioners from all walks of life, mostly seniors with the common goal of living out their life in accordance with our Creator's plan and trusting in him.

This year we have been following the Sydney Archdiocesan Program- “Receive the Grace to Go Make Disciples”. Each week we read the Gospel for the upcoming Sunday and a reflection from a scholar. Before we met, we would do the readings at home and reflect upon the questions, so we were ready to share when we met. The themes for each week varied and were: Community, Worship, Formation, Leadership, Discipleship, and finally Resurrection and Renewal.

There was great respect in the group and each person felt free to share their personal reflections. We learnt much from each other as well as there being a great community spirit. The early church met in homes to discuss their faith, so in some ways, our sharing was just like the early disciples.

After Easter we will meet for a shared meal. Phil and Neville have been great hosts. Our group will continue to meet after Easter, and our program is the Wild Goose Holy Spirit Series presented by the Franciscans of New York State. The meetings will commence in May on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month at 10.30am.
