From Fr Greg's Desk: Sunday 10th April

Hi everyone!

Huge Thank You to all our helpers! Now we just need to deliver our Easter Message into mailboxes!

A large Parish like this one cannot run without a little army of volunteers! A big thank you to all who have volunteered to help out lately to get our Holy Week services prepared and especially our little team who worked very hard to get the letterbox drop organised, bundled and into the Churches for distribution this weekend. We are now going to need a large number of energetic volunteers to deliver those Easter invitations into mailboxes around the Parish. If you could get them into the letterboxes before Tuesday evening, that would be greatly appreciated!! You are all very much appreciated, and I assure you that the '100 to 1' returns promised by our Lord will be paid in full at the appropriate time! Our Lady's Kitchen needs more volunteers to deliver meals

One of the other areas that need more volunteers right now is with Our Lady's Kitchen. The day to day running of a charitable work like Our Lady’s Kitchen needs a lot of helpers and service hours. I cannot thank our present helpers enough. However, we need more people so that the work is distributed more evenly among our volunteers. So, I am making this personal appeal to as many of you as possible to become a part of this beautiful work, so that we can keep helping needy people in our area. The deliveries take place on Tuesday and Friday late afternoons. It usually takes about an hour all told, and it is a wonderful way to be both of service to our Lady and to the people who benefit from the service. Please ring the office on 9807 2966 or email office@rgcp.org,au to find out more about how you can help us to help many others.

New St. Vincent de Paul Night Patrol Service Van in the Area

Another pastoral service opening up in our area is a new vinnies 'Night Patrol' service. I have been approached by Josie Charbel, the St. Vincent de Paul Metropolitan Vinnies Van Coordinator, with an exciting plan to create an entirely new Night Patrol service in the Ryde and Cumberland LGA’s. This is an important project of Catholic outreach, and one that we, as a Parish, ought to support. The overall initial outlay to buy a new van, fit it out and get it up and running is about $90,000. We already have pledges for $12,000 towards this, and I am keen to hear from you and your companies to pledge your own tax-deductible donation to get this up going as soon as possible. Again, all donations are 100% tax deductible. How about sponsoring something like this? (More about this in coming weeks).

Congrats to Merryl Foster on finally receiving her award for 55 years as a Catechist

Last Sunday was the Catechist Mass at the Cathedral and three of our Parishioners received awards and certificates. Merryl Forster received the inaugural "St. Charles Borromeo Award'' for 55 years of service, along with another catechist, Diane McGrath, who is also very well known to me (since she is my sister's Mother-in-law!!). Barbara Yeung and Edna Palomo both received their Accreditation Certificates, having completed their Catechetical 'Boot Camp"! Congrats to all of you!

We are always in need of more catechists, so please, don't hold back! For more information ring the Parish Office or talk to me!!

That's about it for now. I wish you all a very Happy and Holy Week. Set aside the time to take part in our liturgies and masses. They are all very special! I personally hope you will all be very moved by Jesus' love and self sacrifice on the Cross, and filled with the hope for the future, which the Resurrection is meant to inspire in us all.

Your brother, in Christ's service,

Fr Greg
