From Fr Greg's desk: Sunday 17th December, 2023

Hi everyone!
Vinnies Van up and Running (But Sandwich Makers needed)
It is so good to see that our local Vinnies Van has got off to a flying start, with two nights a week for now (on Mondays and Wednesdays) to selected sites in the local Ryde/Gladesville/Hunters Hill area. We have been given the following list of dates in January for sandwich making for these local runs. The dates are as follows:

Mon 1/1 & Wed 3/1
Mon 8/1 & Wed 10/1
Mon 15/1 & Wed 17/1
Mon 22/1 & Wed 24/1
Mon 29/1 & Wed 31/1
Mon 5/2 & Wed 7/2

I am looking for responsible persons to organise their own "Sandwich Makers" cohort, for the ten loaves of sandwiches we need to make. We are already blessed with having our local AlphaBeta OOSH company (Out of School hours) for making sandwiches week in week out as part of their own community service programmes. But we are going to need more in the weeks and months ahead. Please contact the Office for more details.

Congratulations to SCB and OLQP Primary Schools for Outstanding Exam Results in Religious Studies.
Our two primary schools have really 'punched above their weight' in the latest results in their Religious Education Archdiocesan test. We even had two students - Audrey and Mattia get full marks - 50/50 - in the exam!! I am sure it is no coincidence that both are regular Church attendees, (as in every Sunday) as well as Senior Altar Servers at both SCB and OLQP Churches and members of our IGNITE Youth Group.

Well done, Audrey and Mattias - and well done Mr. Peter Watkins, Ms Emma Lenehan, and Ms Giudi Bregolin, for your Religious Education Leadership at our schools.

Br. Nicholas fsp Harsas Receives a Papal Award
The other 'big news' this week is that our own Br. Nicholas Harsas has received Papal Honours for his outstanding service to the Archdiocese in Catholic Education over the past 30 years. The citation from the Archbishop reads as follows:

The Papal Honour of Croce Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice is presented to Br Nicholas Harsas fsp in recognition of his Christia witness and his outstanding promotion of the Catholic faith across his many roles in education over more than thirty years of religious life.

Br. Nicholas is a regular at OLQP Church along with his dear mother, Margaret. We congratulate you, Br. Nicholas, and your fellow Patrician Brothers, on this wonderful recognition of your dedication to Christ and to his Sheep. Br. Nicholas has recently been appointed as a mentor to new Principals in Sydney catholic schools starting in January, and has also been appointed Provincial of the Patrician Brothers Australia-PNG Province to boot! Wow, that is a really great achievement, Br. Nicholas! Congratulations!

Christmas at the Cathedral
We had a full bus load of people attend the annual Christmas at the Cathedral Celebration last Thursday, and a lovely evening was had by all. Led by Archbishop Fisher and hosted by Channel 7 presenter Mark Ferguson, by all accounts it was a wonderful start to the Christmas celebrations.

You can still catch it every night from 5.30 pm to 10.30 pm until the 25th December. Our thanks to the Archbishop for sending a bus to collect us.

And that's about it for now.

God bless, and take good care of yourselves in this hectic run up to Christmas,

Fr. Greg
