From Fr Greg's Desk: Sunday 29th March, 2026
Hi everyone, and a Happy Palm Sunday to you all.
Well, we clearly have a big week up ahead of us, the most important week on the Church's calendar! I thank you in advance for all your collective help and support as we welcome an extra 'couple of thousand' people to the Parish for the weekend Masses, not to mention all the thousands who will also be attending our other 'Easter Triduum' services on Holy Thursday and Good Friday.
'Final Call' for Volunteers for Holy Week Services
There is still much to prepare for the week ahead, and still lots of vacancies for volunteers, especially as Church wardens/ushers, parking wardens, for setting up and packing up chairs and gazebos, and as 'first aid officers', among others things... so if you could help us out a bit more, that would be greatly appreciated. Please get in contact with the Office to let us know of your availability and interest.
Seven Church's Pilgrimage Holy Thursday Evening
Just a reminder that both our Parish halls at SCB and OLQP will be open until midnight to receive pilgrims on Holy Thursday evening after the Mass of the Last Supper. This is a tradition which originated in Rome in the 16th century with St. Phillip Neri, and involves the faithful visiting seven Churches on Holy Thursday night at their 'Altar of Repose" (usually situated in the adjoining Parish Hall). In this way we accompany Jesus and 'stay awake with him' to adore the Blessed Sacrament and pray for world peace. Booklets are available at the Parish Office for personal or group pilgrimages, or you can download the info at https://www.sydneycatholic.org/about-us/archdiocesan-events/holy-thursday-seven-churches-visitation/.
Parking at SCB and OLQP Churches During Holy Week
As most of you are keenly aware, there are now very limited parking spaces even for our regular weekend Church services, let alone for the 'Easter Onslaught'. If you could kindly walk to Church during that time as pilgrims, or 'car pool' with family and friends, that would be a great help to us. We will most likely need volunteer parking wardens this Sunday in any case.
Parish Office Closed Good Friday
I guess it goes without saying that our Parish Office will be closed on Good Friday, but the closure will continue until Monday, 13 April 2026 to give our Office Staff some time off. Please phone our 'Emergency Phone' on 0413 226 508 if you have any urgent needs during that week.
Also, please note that there are no 'usual Masses' on either Holy Thursday, Good Friday or Holy Saturday... Our regular Mass times recommence on Easter Sunday.
And that's about all there is. God bless you all this Holy Week. I pray that the love Jesus shows us all, the 'greatest love of all' visible on the Cross of Good Friday, may inspire you and bolster your own perseverance with the crosses you bear, and that the joy of Easter Sunday invade your hearts and lift your spirits abundantly!
Your brother in Christ's missionary service,
Fr. Greg
