From Fr Greg's Desk

Hi everyone, and welcome to Lent!

Well, our Tap n Go technology got off to a fine start last week, with $330 collected through them in the first day of service! Thanks for those who are helping us to help you, and to do our mission to those who aren’t a part of our parish! The devices will be available during the week as well if you would like to make an offering when visiting our Churches during the week.

By the way, St. Charles Borromeo Church is open seven days a week from 7 am onwards until later in the day. If you see the doors open and the lights on, pop in to say hello to Jesus on your way to work or on your way home.

Last Monday, I did my first Night Patrol with Vinnies OLQP Gladesville in 33 years, and it was inspirational! The last time I did this was during my time at UNSW way back in the 80’s, and it was awesome to be back out on our streets again. Our Parish’s Vinnies Van Team, led by the intrepid Anna Alessi currently goes out once a month on Monday evenings (6 pm to 9.30 pm) to two housing commission areas of our city, and ministers to the people there. It is a beautiful work of outreach and a unique way of bringing Christ’s love into the hearts of the poorer and most vulnerable members of our cities. Really well worthwhile...

I’ll be out there again soon! Would you like to join us? We need ‘snacks’ to give away on these Vinnies expeditions … muesli bars, individual ‘cheese and crackers’, chips, small juice tetra paks, sandwiches and fresh fruit … things of that type are absolute crowd pleasers on the night … Could any of you who have businesses supply this on a regular basis??

For more info on how you can help us to reach out to our poorer citizens, contact Anna Alessi at alessianna06@gmail.com.

By the way, congrats to our 101st subscriber to our weekly Parish eNews! Yes, our online subscriber base is growing, and this week we hit the ton, so like our cricketers we’re celebrating!!! Over the December period, we had more than 2600 ‘hits’ to our website, which our IT consultant Hans van Schie thinks is really “punching above our weight!” The webpages are morphing, giving webpages to our ministries to advertise their works of charity. We expect to have our new and improved website up and running in the near future, thanks to Hannah Rizzo, who is helping us out in the Parish Office while studying at Uni. Check it out, and subscribe to our RGCP eNews at www.rgcp.org.au!

Also, you will have noticed we have carried out some long awaited maintenance to doors, stairs and windows at OLQP Church, following on from the installation of ducted air conditioning there last December. Our next project will be to install two large glass double doors at the rear of OLQP Church in place of the large middle glass and wooden panes there. It will be etched with an icon of our Lady Queen of Peace. That way we will have central access for weddings and funerals at the Church. More about that in future bulletins!

That’s all for now,

Fr Greg
