The 2020 Liturgy Conference
Hello everyone,
Last week, I attended the National Biennial Liturgy Conference which was held in Parramatta. The theme of the conference centred on liturgy in the local worshipping community and the importance of forming a prayerful and Eucharistic Church.
During the conference there were opportunities to listen to the key-note speaker Fr Paul Turner, Theologian and Cathedral Pastor from Kansas, USA. He provided great insights into our rich liturgical traditions as well as discuss the challenges we face in the Church today and ways in which we can move forward into the future by fostering and forming a more prayerful Church that understands the Eucharist as the “source and summit of the life and mission of the Church”.
I also attended some great workshops that focused on understanding, preparing and celebrating the liturgy. In addition, the workshops highlighted ways in which ministers play a role in drawing the assembly into full, conscious and active participation in the liturgy. The presenters, who came from across the country, shared their knowledge, wisdom, experiences and their passion for the liturgy.
The conference was also a wonderful opportunity to meet with and learn from other ministers, catechist, educators, religious men and women from all over the country. We discussed some of the challenges we face but we also had a chance to share ideas and initiatives that have worked well in helping to form a more prayerful and Eucharistic church in our own in our local communities.
I am grateful for the opportunity I had to attend the conference. I am looking forward to sharing my insights and learnings with other liturgical coordinators and ministers in our parish.
