From Fr Greg's Perch: Sunday 7th February

Hi everyone!

Year 7 HCC Camp at Mangrove Mountain. On Thursday we (Deacon Steve and myself) accompanied Year 7 of Holy Cross Ryde, along with their teachers and Year 12 mentors (great to see you there, Seamus and Stefano!) on their annual camp up at Mangrove Mountain.

'High'-lights of the day included the 'flying fox', high ropes, and a kind of breath-taking 'leap of faith' from 20 meters up (see photos) which, I discovered, truly requires you to make an act of faith - both in the Good Lord, and in the ropes attached to your harness! Oh... and not to think things through too much beforehand! Yes, quite breath taking - both the view from 20 metres up over the tree tops, and that 'stepping out' off that little platform and into thin air!

Wonderful to be with our budding young leaders at work at Holy Cross, and our recently fare-welled male SCB and OLQP Year 6 students beginning their formative years of high school over there. Go, Holy Cross!

Presenting Olivia Ebenhaut, our new Youth Minister at RGCP.
Last week we fare-welled Jemille West, who has been our Youth Ministry Coordinator at the Parish for the last two years. She has taken up a position at the UTS Chaplaincy Team as Team Leader. Again, we thank her for her great work with our youth over that time.

Olivia, however, is a very capable and welcome addition to our Youth Ministry Team at the Parish. Olivia comes to us from Castle Hill, and will be presenting herself at our weekend Masses over coming weeks. Our own Deacon Steve Drum, FMVD will be replacing Jemille as the Parish's Youth Ministry Coordinator this year.

Parish Youth Team is still seeking one more part-time Youth Minister! We are currently seeking another part-time youth minister to tend to our Ignite kids (years 3 - 6). If you know of anyone who might head this energetic and invaluable Parish ministry, please put them in contact with us.

Ash Wednesday (17th February) and the beginning of Lent is just around the corner. There are still spots available at our Lenten Prayer Groups, and Philippa Manley is leading a Zoom based session every week, for those of you who are more house and family bound. Contact the Parish Office for more details.

Further Lifting of COVID 19 restrictions in the air... Our NSW Premier has mentioned this week that the current '4 meter squared' rule may be relaxed to the '2 meter squared' rule, meaning double the number of attendees at our masses, weddings and funerals perhaps from next Friday onwards. However, let's not 'count our chickens before they hatch'!

And that's about all for now! Have a great week,
Fr Greg
