From Fr Greg's Desk: Sunday 3rd October

Hi everyone!

'Our Lady's Kitchen' (OLK) is 'open for business!

We are now at the end of our second week of food deliveries of freshly cooked meals to local people in need who have no one else to look after them. My gratitude to all of you who have made it possible, with the donations of the fridge, freezer, stove and pantry cupboards, labour and other items, as well as your own volunteer labour making the service possible. Big thank you especially to Anna Alessi for replicating the service locally!
We have now sent out the rosters for the month of October, and expanded the number of our clients from 25 to 35 in the last week alone. You can still donate financially at our "donate now" button on our website under 'general donation', and mention 'OLK' as the beneficiary, or something to that effect. If you require tax deductibility for your donation, please also state that. We will then allocate it to fund the particular and ongoing needs of the service.

As the service is growing, we will need many more volunteers to pick up the food from St. Merkorious' own industrial kitchen, and the Gift of Bread warehouse, and to deliver the food to our 'clients'. Please send an email to olk@rgcp.org.au or ring the Parish Office on 9807 2966 for any enquiries or offers of help.

Please note that Our Lady's Kitchen is a Parish based charity at OLQP working in a four-way partnership with the St. Merkorious Charity, the Gift of Bread foundation, and our own Gladesville St. Vinnies conference. Each is a specialist in specific facets of the overall operation, with the logistics being looked after by Gladesville St. Vinnies, the fresh food being cooked, cooled and packaged by the St. Merkorious Charity, the bread obtained through the Gift of Bread foundation, and our own Parish providing the infrastructure, volunteers, funding, transport and temporary storage/kitchen facilities.

As such, we are not cooking onsite, as the food safety regulations are cumbersome and, besides, the other three partners are already experts and specialists in their own domains.

'Catholic churches' set to reopen once NSW reaches 80% Vaccination Level, (approx. date: 25th October)

Last Wednesday, an eBlog was sent out to everyone who has registered their emails with us to inform you all of the decision taken by Archbishop Fisher to not reopen our Churches to public worship until all are permitted inside, both vaccinated and unvaccinated persons. Current estimates of when that point will be reached are around the 25th of October. An abbreviated version of this information has been included on the adjacent page of this bulletin and the full text is available on our website for you to print off and read. Copies will be sent out with our 'buddy system this weekend, and are also available from our Parish Office. We will inform you as soon as further information comes to light.

New Driveway Surface at SCB Church.

If you have driven by the Church on Friday you may well have noticed a flurry of activity with excavators, tip trucks and the like. The crushed gravel driveway which has been eroding away over the years, and 'walked' into the Church carpet on a regular basis, (especially after rain), is being replaced with a sandstone coloured reinforced cement driveway. The work should be completed in the next week or so, so we apologise in advance for any inconveniences caused while the work

New Walkways and Cemented Surface Areas on the SCB Primary School side of the Church

The well-worn cement on the SCB Primary School side of the Church, adjacent to the stained glass windows and leading to the sacristy, has also been broken up and removed. It will soon be replaced by sandstone pavers and cement. The new sandstone pavers currently leading up to the steps next to the Sacristy will be continued towards Victoria Road until they veer to the left around the front corners of the Church and meet up with the original sandstone paving there. They will replace part of the cement path that was there. Our thanks to the generosity of one of our Parish families for much of the work done this weekend.

And that's about it for now!

Your brother in Christ's renewal work at RGCP, both physically and spiritually

Fr. Greg
