From Fr Greg's Desk: Sunday 14th November

Hi everyone!

Farewell Fr. Alfredo...
It is with some sadness that this weekend we farewell our own Fr. Alfredo as he ventures forth for a two-year mission in Russia, before taking up a more permanent posting in his own beloved Mexico. Fr. Alfredo has served here at RGCP for almost 4 years now, and has enriched our Parish with his kind demeanour, lovely homilies, and great artistic talent.

He should be making a final appearance at most of the weekend Masses to say goodbye, after his farewell BBQ on Saturday at 12pm lunchtime in the SCB School grounds. We are certainly going to miss you, Fr. Alfredo, and we all wish you the very best in your future years of missionary work.

Fr. Alfredo’s Enduring Artistic Legacy at SCB Primary School
Fr. Alfredo, however, has not left us without a little artistic legacy. Most of you are probably unaware of Fr. Alfredo’s parting gift to our Parish, in the form of two new murals he has painted – albeit with the help of the kids at SCB Primary! – which can be found near the Kindergarten rooms in the play area outside. (I have included the photos of both murals on the opposite page of this week’s bulletin.)

The murals depict the original ‘Our Lady’s Kitchen’ (err... the one which Mother Mary herself ran!) The one on the right-hand side shows Mother Mary preparing the food - with the two school captains of SCB Primary at her side - because we want our young leaders to follow in our Lady’s footsteps, even long after they finish their schooling here. On the first mural, however, is Jesus serving some poor kids, as we are doing with our new pastoral outreach project: Our Lady’s Kitchen, with just under 40 needy people in the local area. And the caption painted above the murals reads: “Here I am among you...”, “...as one who serves", from (Luke 22,27). I am sure you will agree that it is truly a beautiful work of Christian art!

On behalf of all the Parish: “Thank you so much, Fr. Alfredo!”

First Holy Communion Masses
Last week we began the first of seven First Holy Communion Masses at the Parish, all of them at SCB Church simply because they need to believe streamed as COVID restrictions have reduced the number of family members able to attend. There will be three this weekend, two the next and one, finally on the 27th November. Please join me in welcoming these young members of our Parish at future masses as they grow in their own personal commitment to their Catholic faith.

Volunteers Meeting for Christmas Masses – Wed 17th 7.30 pm SCB Parishl Hall
Next Wednesday night we will be hosting a meeting at the SCB Primary School Hall for anyone who can help us out by volunteering at our Christmas Masses. And, boy, are we going to need a small army of you to help us out!

One of the major areas we wish to develop at the Parish, and which was identified by you at the Parish forums we held back in 2018, is that of 'welcoming and hospitality'. This has always been a feature of our Christian heritage, right from the days when Jesus graced Martha, Mary and Lazarus’ home and was attended to by Martha, (albeit not without a few choice words of complaint from her about her sister’s lack of help!). So, in order to avoid Martha's dilemma this year, we are going to need quite a few people to make this a reality. You can be 'the welcoming face of RGCP' to those who come!

Hence, next Wednesday night we are inviting everyone who could help volunteer at our Christmas Masses to come along for a meeting at 7.30 pm in the SCB Primary School Hall. There we will present the plan and perhaps sign you up for the specific Masses and roles. Thanks in advance for all your help!

Ongoing Sandstone Pavement...
There have been further delays, unfortunately, to finishing the pavements and driveway at SCB Church due to setbacks in the supply of the sandstone pavers themselves. The sand and cement are here, and the workers are ready to get it all done, quick smart; as soon as the sandstone arrives it should soon be finished. Once again, we thank you for your patience and apologise for any inconvenience that might be caused in the meantime. The end result, however, should be quite impressive!

And that’s about it for now. Here’s to a beautiful summer ahead, albeit -hopefully- with only a few minor COVID restrictions.

Your brother in Christ’s service,

Fr. Greg
