From Fr Greg's Desk: Sunday 21st August 2022

Hi everyone!
Calling All Gardening Helpers - "Green Fingers" Working Bee Day 3rd Sep 2022 (Feast of St. Gregory the Great!) 8am –10:30am
Spring is on our doorstep, and the SCB grounds need a bit of 'Spring Weeding'. There are lots of bindis, dandelions and the like to weed out of our lawns and paths, and we need to spread a lot of topsoil to start levelling out the divots in the lawn due to it being, basically a former graveyard.

So, I need a whole 'heap of helpers' Saturday morning 3rd September from about 8 - 10.30 am. If you wish to get there earlier, that is also fine by me! Morning tea will be provided. So please, save the date and get your WOWD (Weapons Of Weed Destruction') ready to give 'dem weeds hell!' And .. don't worry, there are enough weeds to go round... please don't feel you should leave a place for some more deserving volunteer!

Fr. Ismael Barros, Superior General, Verbum Dei Missionary Fraternity.
Just a reminder that the Superior General of the Verbum Dei Missionary Fraternity to which all four priests of the Parish belong is making a 'pastoral visit' to us from Rome. We are delighted to have him here, as this is the first time in three years that he has been able to visit because of the COVID restrictions on travel that we were all very familiar with.

Fr. Ismael will be present at some of the Masses and youth groups this weekend, so if you happen to see him, please make him feel very welcome.

Parish Renewal Conference 2022 on this Weekend
Fr. Dan and myself, along with Judy Raumer, Philippa Manley, Pina and Lauren Bernard and others will be attending the Sydney Archdiocese Parish Renewal Conference 2022 held in the Cathedral precinct this weekend, from Friday night to Saturday evening. Keynote speakers include Archbishop Anthony Fisher, Archbishop Julian Porteous and Dr Scott Hahn (from the US). Our own Tania Rimac will also be presenting a topic discussing 'Five Steps to Build an Invitational Culture at the conference.

It looks like being a very interesting and informative event, and one that we hope will lead to our Parishes becoming Missionary centres for the surrounding suburban areas to which we are called to evangelise.

Visitation Ministry for Parishioners at Home
There are many, many elderly parishioners who, due to illness, and COVID isolation over the last two years, need a friendly visit from people like you and I. I would love to spend my week doing such a ministry, as I did during the COVID lockdowns, but am prevented from doing so by the constant 'treadmill' of Parish, Deanery and Diocesan demands.

We need for all Acolytes and Eucharistic ministers to exercise at least occasionally this ministry of visitation, in addition to serving on the altar at masses, weddings and funerals. Please support this vital Parish ministry, to 're-connect the disconnected' and build bridges to them.

Contact the Parish Office (phone: 9807-2966 or email: office@rgcp.org.au) for further information as to how you could be of help in extending my ministry t the ones who have 'dropped off our Parish radar'.

Father's Day Memorial Mass at Field of Mars Cemetery, Sat 3rd Sep 2022 - 10.30 am
Save the date! We will once again be having our traditional Father’s Day Memorial Mass at Field of Mars Cemetery at 10.30 am in the usual place adjacent to the Office. A marquee and seating will be provided so invite all those you know who used to come along before COVID struck three years ago. More about this in future bulletins ...

And that's about it for now!

God bless, and don't forget to do something extra this week for someone in need. There are literally hundreds of people in your vicinity to whom Jesus is sending you every day!

Your brother in Christ’s Missionary service,

Fr. Greg
