Fr Greg's Desk: Sunday 22nd January 2023

Hi everyone! Thank God for the rain!!
SPARC Youth Camp in Toukley Mon - Wed Next Week
Our SPARC Youth Camp will be going ahead from next Monday to Wednesday up at Toukley. We
have about 80 people all told, including the leaders, and it looks like being a really wonderful event.

Big thanks to all our youth leaders who are helping Fr. Steve and Olivia to run the camp, and to all those who have helped with donations of time and money to make this such a big, bright event in our yearly calendar. We look forward to hearing all about it next week.
Please pray for them so that it will be a wonderful edifying experience for everyone involved.

Our Lady’s Kitchen Needs more Volunteer Deliverers
It is now well over a year since the Parish established Our Lady's Kitchen to serve freshly cooked food twice a week to people in need in the Gladesville area. This is all thanks to a fortuitous three-way partnership with our local Vinnies Conference at Gladesville and the St. Merkorious Charity and their industrial kitchen to cook and package the food.

As the number of people requesting the service is increasing, due to the difficult financial outlook they face, we are once again making a drive for volunteers to deliver the cooked meals to homes, as well as new teams of chefs to help provide our occasional lunch days at OLQP hall.

For more information about the service, please contact the Parish Office on 9807 2966 or email us at olk@rgcp.org.au.

Upcoming CatholicCare Community Companioning Workshop
I am repeating the notice I gave last week about our upcoming Community Companionship Workshop. Steven Hollai of CatholicCare will be coming to our Parish Hall on Tuesday February 14th (9am to 4 pm) to address interested parishioners about forming part of a ministry to accompany elderly people in their ‘twilight years’, and help extend our outreach to elderly members of our congregation and area.

Several people have already expressed interest in being a part of this venture (thank you!!), which we want to become a permanent feature of our Parish's pastoral outreach to Senior Citizens in our area.

As places in the workshop are very limited, please make your expressions of interest known to me in writing/by email by the end of this month (31st January).

Catechist Sunday 5th February 2023
In two weeks’ time, we will be celebrating Catechist Sunday, with short presentations given after
Communion about how you could become a Catechist and join our amazing team at four local State primary schools. As some of our catechists have recently retired due to mobility and health issues, we need extra help in order to bring Jesus' message of love to many Catholic kids in the area who don't attend Catholic schools.

Don't worry ... you can be a helper to start with until you get more training and experience, but I assure you, it is a very rewarding experience - both for the kids and for the catechists. Catechists will be available after every Mass that weekend to give more info. Otherwise ring the office and ask for a Catechist to call you.

Happy Australia Day!
I'd like to wish you all a very 'Happy Australia Day' for next Thursday. We will be having our usual Australia Day Mass on Thursday 26th January at 9.20 am. This is a positive way for us to pray for our nation and its leaders, and for us as Catholics of this Great Southern Land of the Holy Spirit, as it was known several centuries ago.

St. Paul encourages us in Tim 1 2:2 to pray for our leaders: "so that we may be able to live peaceful and quiet lives with all devotion and propriety". God Bless Australia!

Valentine's 'Date Night' - Save the Date: Friday 17th February
On Friday 17th February at 7pm an evening "Date Night", to celebrate Valentine's Day, is being organised for couples in committed relationships to rekindle the romance and learn more about each other. It will be held in the St Charles Borromeo Parish Hall.

More information to follow in the coming weeks, so save the date and keep an eye out for this.

Engaged Couples' Formations at Ryde in the Near Future
I am presently in discussions with the Life, Marriage and Family agency of the Archdiocese to help us get marriage preparation and enrichment courses here at our Parish in the near future. As many of you would be aware, we have about 50 weddings a year at the Parish, but the couples go elsewhere for their preparation courses, which is a shame.

We have an information night coming up in the next few weeks to discuss this and we invite you and your spouse to come along to see how you could help. More information in coming bulletins.

And that's about all there is for now.

Your brother in Christ's service,
Fr. Greg
