From Fr Greg's Desk: Sunday 2nd July 2023
Hi everybody!
Ongoing Work Around SCB Church Ryde
Well, last Friday, Keith Stanshall, our maintenance man, finished the work of cleaning and sealing the slate roof on the Church at SCB Ryde. It was quite a bit of work, and his arms were really tired at the end of each day, but I am sure you will agree that the Church is looking resplendent in the morning sun on a clear day. Thank you, Keith! He has also finished, with the help of our electricians, the work of moving the second light pole from the middle of the pathway adjacent to the SCB school library into the garden, as we did with the one nearest the Parish Office. And the irrigation pipes have been re-laid, in time for the topsoil to finish off the garden there. Nice job, Keith, Louie and Arthur.

Ongoing Work Around OLQP Church Gladesville
Keith will be moving the work down to Our Lady Queen of Peace next week. We are installing new reinforced glass balustrades to raise the height of the current one to a safe height (and comply with W, H & S legislation). The stairwell leading to the choir loft, along with the ceiling of the choir loft itself, will be re-painted, and some of the benches there will be refurbished. The Choir loft for now serves as 'overflow seating' for large Masses, Funerals and the like. The roof over the sacristy and corridor of the Church there needs to be waterproofed once again, and the lead flashings sealed and repaired. And a new circular light, similar to the ones already installed is already in place, in time for this weekend’s Masses.
Progress Report: Vinnies Vans
Josie Charbel, the Vinnies NSW Van Services Manager, has informed me that the new Vinnies Van for our area will soon be up and running, and that the routes and teams are being formed, even as I write and you read this. Our local Vinnies Van will be garaged at West Ryde Retail Shop, to be accessed via the back lane (Anzac Lane, West Ryde). The back of the Vinnies 'op-shop' is currently being re-purposed for this work, with a new stainless steel sink, bench, shelving and fridge installed. And, to top that off, an automatic roller door has been fitted so that the van can be driven inside each time, for both the safety and convenience of the Night Patrol Team members. Well done, Josie Charbel!
Wrapping and Flow on EffectsAs you can see by the artist's image opposite, this is the way that the vans will be wrapped (our efforts at "building a vinnies van appear to have set in motion other appeals in other suburbs and towns to do the same ... there are now a total of six new vans in the process of purchase, fit-out and wrapping!!!! Well done, Team RGCP!" The two vans we collectively "built" will also have the logo of our Parish emblazoned upon them.
Vinnies Van Training and Compliance Requirements
However, it has come to our attention that not everyone who expressed an interest in forming part of a Night Patrol Team at the meeting we had three months ago, has completed the initial training and compliance requirements. These have to be met in order to be covered by their volunteer's insurance, should anything happen to you during your ministry, so yes, you've got to get these sorted out first. If you need help, let us know. And we welcome new team members, even if you missed the first info night. (see info on opposite page)
Please get in touch with the Parish Office on 9807 2966 or office@rgcp.org.au for more information.
Our Lady's Kitchen - Deliverers Needed
We are still in need of more volunteers to help with the collection and delivery of meals to people in need in our Gladesville area. This involves about 1.5 hours of your time on a Tuesday or Thursday afternoon, from about 4.40 pm onwards. I know that some people work at that time, but others may have the flexibility of getting involved in this very good work of Christian charity. Get in touch with us to find out more.
And that's about it for now. God bless you all, and thank you for your commitment to our Parish, to make it a place of prayer and works of mercy. I thank you as well, as this financial year draws to a close, for all your financial support throughout the past year, and bless you in advance for your help into the year ahead.
