From Fr Greg's Desk: Sunday 8th October, 2023

Hi everyone!
Okay, so what do I have to communicate to you this week?

Fr. Greg's Away on Pilgrimage To the Holy Land (12 - 26 Oct)
I am really excited to be leading a pilgrimage to the Holy Land (Israel and Jordan) over the next two weeks or so. There will be 35 of us all told, some from the Parish, some from Qld and NZ, along with some family members of your Verbum Dei missionary priests (Frs. Greg, Dan and Steve). As I often say, I think every Catholic, given the opportunity to go overseas, should put a trip to the Holy Land at first place on their 'bucket list' of destinations. It will enrich your perspectives of faith substantially and change the way you read the Bible forever by the 'physicality' of the places where Jesus and the disciples lived, travelled and died. Anyway, I hope to get a column off from the Holy Land in the next two Bulletins. So, stay tuned to this 'channel' for more about the Pilgrimage in coming weeks and please look after the place while I'm gone!

Anyone got an old Mobile Phone that Still Works?
Does anyone by any chance have an old mobile I could use while overseas? Nothing fancy, but if youhave upgraded and have an old one recently, which might still work, I could certainly use it on my pilgrimage. Please let me know at pp@rgcp.org.au before Wednesday 11th October, the day I leave.

Didasko Adult faith formation - two more nights of philosophical formations
The Didasko Formation evening offered by Notre Dame University in conjunction with the Archdiocese of Sydney went very nicely last week. Dr Catherine Wesselinoff spoke last Wednesday about Goodness, and she will be speaking about Truth and Beauty on upcoming Wednesday evenings (see info box on page 3). It was a very informative and edifying session, and you are still most welcome to come next week even if you missed the first one. When and Where: Wednesday 12th/19th Oct, 2023, in the Gell Room below the Parish Office. Bring some paper and pen for your own notes.

Vinnies Van Update
The new Ryde Vinnies Van is now happily housed in the back part of the Vinnies Shop, Ryedale Road, West Ryde and ready for action. I had a chance to accompany Josie Charbel (NSW Vinnies Van Services Coordinator) on Friday to visit three places where the new Vinnies Van will be stopping. The twice weekly run will begin inside of a few weeks, starting on Monday and Wednesday evenings. The people who have offered themselves for this service, I am told, will soon be getting an email to let them know their rostered day and the team leader. Thanks for your patience in getting this up and running. If you would also like to be a part of this, see the info box on Page 7 of this bulletin for more details.

Need to Finalise Our 'Cultural Cuisine' Choices for Our Parish Feast Day 5th November by 13th October.
We need to finalise the arrangements for the International Lunch on our next Parish Feast Day set down for the 5th November, 2023. We already have clinched offers from Italian, Filipino, Thai, and South American chefs, and there will be a traditional 'Aussie BBQ' (a donation has already been promised for 15 dozen sausages - thank you). So, if there are any other cultural groups wanting to let us taste the finest they can offer, please let Judy know at the Office this week (by COB Friday if at all possible please!)

'Drink Donations' Also Needed for Parish Feast Day 5th November
If you happen to be as useless in the kitchen as Fr. Greg is, you can still help out: we also need cans of soft drink, juice 'poppers', flavoured mineral waters, small bottles of water and the like for the Feast Day. Can anyone help us out? Just drop them off at the Parish Office any time during the week, or let us know if the drop off needs to be 'out of hours' for someone to be on hand to receive them.

Welcome to Barbara Turner our new Parish Office Assistant

Last week we welcomed Barbara Turner to the Parish Office Team, replacing Liz Eaton who is returning to 'professional life' once again (not that our Office Staff lack professionality!) Barbara comes to us from Marsfield, Barbara says this of herself: I am a married mum with three beautiful boys who are now nearly all grown up and I have taken this opportunity to work, once again, in administration. My middle son is about to sit the HSC and my youngest is in year 9 so life is pretty hectic at home. It is a pleasure to come to work and immerse myself in the Parish, working alongside Fr Greg, Fr Dan, Fr Steve, Fr Daniele and the lovely staff in the office. I look forward to meeting you all over the coming weeks.

And that's about it for now. God bless, see you in three weekend's time! Please pray that the Pilgrimage goes off without a hitch.

Fr. Greg
