Vale Monsignor Vince Redden

Vale Monsignor Vince Redden

I am very sorry to inform you of the death of Monsignor Vince Redden.  As you know, Vince had been living with serious health challenges for some time.  He was admitted to St Vincent’s Hospital a few weeks ago, and despite some improvement his condition deteriorated last night, and he died quite suddenly early this morning.  He would have been 87 years old in December this year.

Vince was a leader and mentor among the priests of the Archdiocese over many decades.  He served as Assistant Priest in numerous parishes, and then as Parish Priest of Ryde, as Dean of the Cathedral, and as Parish Priest of Drummoyne, retiring in 2018.  He held many leadership positions including Chair of the Committee for Ongoing Formation of Clergy, Chair of the Archdiocesan Schools Advisory Board, and for many years he was the Episcopal Vicar for Clergy.  He was also an Army Reserve chaplain attached the Commando Unit at Middle Head (which involved various parachute jumps).  Even during the last few years when Vince’s breathing was severely compromised, he was always present at clergy conferences, retreats and our other gatherings, with his positive attitude and support for clergy evident to all.

Funeral details will be provided in due course.

May Vince now share fully in the Life of the Resurrection promised by his Lord whom he served so faithfully.  We extend our condolences to his family and close friends.  May he rest in peace.

Yours fraternally,

Very Rev Dr Gerald Gleeson
Vicar General

Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney
