From Fr Geg's Desk: Sunday 7th June, 2026

Hi everyone!
'Fare Ye Well' Bishop Danny!
I was tempted to write my usual article last week from some sort of 'exotic destination', but in the end, time escaped me, so I am sorry (well ... sort of!!) that nothing was forthcoming. I absented myself from the Parish to attend Bishop Danny Meagher's 'Solemn Mass of Installation' as the 11th Bishop of Rockhampton, QLD. (The photo you have below was taken after the Installation Mass with his Parish Centre and people in the background.)

Bishop Danny, many of you will recall, has been our local auxiliary Bishop for the last few years since Bishop Terry retired, confirmed many of our youth in the faith, and proved to be solid support for us in our Parish over the last few years. I, personally, am very sorry to see him go, but very happy for him and for the people and priests of the Rockhampton Diocese, who have scored a wonderfully capable pastoral shepherd for their extended flock.

The Diocese of Rockhampton is incredibly large. It stretches all the way along the northern coastline from Bundaberg in the south to Mackay in the north, and then to the far east Northern Territorian border and the rural town of Longreach. The Good Bishop is certainly going to be travelling long distances to tend to his flock!

And so we wish you all the very best, Bishop Danny, in this new stage of your Episcopal ministry, and we thank the Good Lord for having given you to minister to us during the short time of your Episcopal ministry in Sydney.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
Information Night 7.30 pm Wednesday 29 July 2026
Our next 'batch' of RCIA candidates will begin on Wednesday 5th August, and we already have more than a dozen registered for the course (which is really good!). Still, I am certain that there are other people you may know of, who have expressed to you an interest in becoming a Catholic, and could be soon living both with the hope of an eternal life ahead of them and the present joy of being loved infinitely by the Good Lord.

Why don't you invite someone to perhaps consider it for themselves? You could even accompany them to the information night on Wednesday 29 July to help overcome any awkwardness they might feel.

This past Easter we had five people receive all their Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and First Holy Communion) and another five who came from other Christian denominations, having been previously Baptised in another Christian Church. We still have plenty of room for more people this year, and are hoping this time to perhaps have one of the largest RCIA intakes in our 165 year history.

We will also be in need of 'Sponsors' for these RCIA candidates throughout the course. Would you please consider taking one of these candidates 'under your wing' yourself and accompanying them on their faith journey into the Catholic Church? For more information please speak with Fr. Daniele who will once again be leading the course, or send an email to the Parish Office to find out more from our RCIA Team.

And that's about all I have for the time being. Have a lovely week ahead!

Fr. Greg
