From Fr Greg's Desk: Sunday 23 August, 2026

Hi everyone!
Celebration of Sacraments of Initiation for our College Students
Last Thursday evening, 20th August, I was delighted to have the honour of presiding at a lovely celebration for 25 of our teenagers to complete their 'Sacraments of Initiation' (Baptism, Confirmation, & the Eucharist) so as to become fully fledged members of the Catholic Church. Friends, family and college staff and companions turned out at St. Kevin's Catholic Church Eastwood for the celebration, in the company of Fr. Dominik Karnas (of St. Kevin's Eastwood) and our own Fr. Dan Drum. Seventeen (17) of the 25 were first Baptised, and then joined by the other eight (8) for a combined total of 25 being presented for the Sacrament of Confirmation, with all of them receiving the Eucharist to complete their 'Sacraments of Initiation', as you can see from the photos below. Congratulations to all of you, and thanks to everyone who helped prepare them for the Big Night!

We were also blessed with the presence of the Principals of our three Catholic regional Secondary Colleges - Phil Stewart of Holy Cross College, David Sullivan of Marist College Eastwood, and Rachel Sampson of Marists Sisters College Woolwich, Representatives of Sydney Catholic Schools including Robyn Rodwell (Manager of SCS School Support) and Jane Sullivan (SCS Mission and Identity) along with our resident Patrician Brothers: Aengus Kavanagh, Stephen Sweetman and Peter Ryan. Along with families and friends of the 25, it was quite a celebration! We look forward to welcoming at least some of them to our regular weekend Masses.

Adult Confirmation Classes begin next Thursday 27 August 7.30 - 9 pm
We will also be holding an eight week course for adults who have already been Baptised but not yet confirmed, finishing with the October 25 Confirmation Mass in St. Mary's Cathedral (see info box on opposite page). You might know of someone who for some reason has not yet been Confirmed and could benefit from the programme... So why don't you 'pop the question' to them, and maybe even offer yourselves as their Sponsor for the event? If you need some help with this, or would like for one of us Priests to speak to the person directly to answer any queries or reservations they might have, just let us know, and we will do our best to oblige.

Father's Day Memorial Mass Saturday 5th September OLQP Church 10.30 am
Just a reminder that our annual Father's Day Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday week at 10.30 am at OLQP Church. As usual we will have an 'Honour Roll' for the day to remember our beloved Dad's and Granddad's who have passed into the arms of our Dear Lord. Mark that on your Calendars and invite everyone you know who may have lost a Father or Grandfather recently. We will have a morning tea afterwards in the OLQP Hall.

And that's about it for now. God bless!

Fr. Greg
